Helpful hints:
Do you have an opinion? Then everyone is entitled to it! Writing a letter is as easy as talking to a friend; if you can say it, you can write it.
To be successful at having your letter published you must keep in mind two things when writing it:
One is its length and the other is its negative content.
There is a fine line between stating a negative opinion and being slanderous. The latter will cause your letter to be rejected. For instance; it is acceptable to state that the Union County Freeholders and County Manager are unethical, untruthful, fiscally irresponsible and contemptuous to the public. However, your letter may be rejected if you state that the Union County Freeholders and County Manager are corrupt, liars, incompetent and arrogant, nasty sons of b's, etc.
According to The Star-Ledger editorial page, they welcome comments from readers. Letters should be kept as brief as possible and must not exceed 200 words. (This 200 word limit is for the main section of the paper, generally letters up to about 300 words would be considered for publication in the weekly papers.) All submissions must include the writer's name, address and phone number. You may be contacted to verify that you submitted the letter. Address and phone number are kept confidential. Unsigned submissions will not be used. Submissions may be edited and may be published and otherwise reused in any medium. E-mail submissions must be text messages, not attachments.
